Morning Lemon Flush
THIS SIMPLE beverage is best consumed immediately after waking up. It’s a great way to rehydrate after a long sleep, flush your system, jump-start your digestive system, and get you going for the day!
Why It’s Healthy
Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is highly cleansing and rejuvenating. Because lemon juice is similar in structure to our own body’s digestive juices, it can improve digestion. It may even help keep the bowels moving and prevent constipation. In Ayurvedic medicine, it is thought the sourness of lemons kick-starts your digestive system and assists with breaking down and absorbing nutrients from food. Lemon juice is also a good source of vitamin C, an increased intake of which may help prevent wrinkles and improve skin appearance.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Vinegar has long been used in the kitchen for various purposes. Raw, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar (ACV) is the most popular form of vinegar. Containing several healing properties, apple cider vinegar improves digestion, balances pH, enhances detoxification, reduces heartburn, aids in weight loss, and boosts energy.13, 14 ACV can kill various forms of bad bacteria and has been shown to lower blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is made by fermenting the sugar of crushed apples with yeast and turning it into alcohol. Good-for-you bacteria is added, and the solution then becomes “acetic acid.” In addition to acetic acid, ACV contains B vitamins, vitamin C, magnesium, potassium, probiotics, enzymes, and other nutrients.
Sea Salt
High-quality, unrefined sea salt is a rich source of minerals and provides many benefits to the body. Salt is a natural electrolyte source and helps balance fluids in the body. Without proper sodium levels, you risk dehydration and extreme thirst problems.
Note: you must use raw, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar to obtain the healing properties described.
