Breakfast On The Paleo Diet

Your Guide to a Successful Paleo Diet Meal Plan for Breakfast (Plus Recipes!)

What foods come to mind when you think of breakfast?

In America and other western societies, this answer is more than likely going to be cereal, pancakes, doughnuts, muffins, oatmeal, and maybe even some fruits and fruit juices.

Talk about starting the day out with a sugar overload!

When first starting out on the Paleo diet, people are often stumped when it comes to what they should be eating for breakfast. I want to shift your mindset to get rid of the idea that breakfast has to look or be a certain way. Instead, I want you to change your thinking to allow you to have the foods that you may eat for lunch and dinner for breakfast also.

Ultimately, breakfast should be enjoyable so, let’s dig in.

What Should I Put on My Paleo Diet Food List?

The Paleo diet, known to many as the caveman diet, focuses on foods that our ancestors ate 2,000 years ago. This means processed and preserved foods, among others, aren’t to be eaten.

Here are a few items to add to your grocery list that will give you a solid foundation to build your perfect Paleo breakfast from:

  • Meats, pasture-raised and grass-fed
  • Vegetables
  • Berries
  • Avocados
  • Eggs
  • Squash
  • Zucchini
  • Nuts and seeds

Check out my article on beginning the Paleo diet for more information on the kinds of foods that are allowed on the Paleo diet, which foods aren’t, and why.

What Are Some Good Paleo Diet Breakfast Recipes?

As long as you’re sticking to the foods permissible, you can eat anything you’d like for breakfast on the Paleo diet!

Some general ideas for you to work within using the food list above could be:

  • Ground meat with steamed veggies.
  • Scrambled or fried eggs with steamed veggies.
  • Bacon and eggs with sautéed yellow squash and zucchini.
  • Bacon and eggs with some berries on the side.
  • Sausage and eggs with veggies.
  • Top off dishes with some avocado, extra virgin olive oil, or some nuts and seeds.

I strongly encourage making this your own and fixing enough for multiple meals. Getting burned out on preparation isn’t good for any kind of diet!

However, I understand that it sometimes is hard to get started, so I’ve compiled some popular Paleo diet breakfast recipes for you to try at home:
